BAPTISM

Publicly sharing your faith in Jesus

TAKE THE NEXT STEP
AND SHARE YOUR FAITH STORY

Baptism is a unique opportunity to tell others about your faith in Jesus. As a follower of Jesus, baptism is a public statement that your faith and commitment to Him is real. We are not called to live our lives alone, but to find a growing community to share life and experience with. Through baptism, we are asking our family of faith to walk with us in a way that brings Glory to God.

Why be baptized?

    1. Obedience
In Matthew 28:19, Jesus instructed us to be baptized as an act of obedience. Jesus himself was baptized! We want to follow his example and honor his guidance. While baptism is not necessary for salvation, it demonstrates submission to God.
    2. Identification
Just as a nametag lets everyone know your name, baptism identifies you as a Christian. It’s a public way to celebrate that your sins have been forgiven and to announce that you are in a relationship with Jesus.

Wondering if baptism is your next step?

We understand that you may have some questions. We’d love to help. Learn more about what baptism is, how we baptize, and what’s involved in sharing your story.

What is baptism?

Baptism is a way to go public with your faith to show others that you have started a personal relationship with Jesus.

Baptism is not necessary for salvation. It symbolizes the new life you began when you started following Jesus. It symbolizes your old life dying (going under the water) and your new life (coming out of the water).

Do I have to do a video?

A video is not required to be baptized. However, your willingness to introduce yourself and your story is a powerful testimony. We encourage all who join and celebrate baptism to share how God has blessed you and brought you to this decision. We will make it as painless as possible. You will not regret it.

How do I get baptized?

  1. Fill out the baptism request link.
  2. Pick the service and celebration Sunday you are interested in.
  3. Let us know your shirt size and pick up your baptism t-shirt at the church office.
  4. Meet with church staff to record your video.
  5. Invite all your family and friends to join you for the baptism celebration. (Family and friends are invited to join you on stage during this special step in your faith journey).
  6. Find a way to use your gifts to serve in the Mt. Pleasant family. Begin to boldly share the unfailing love of Jesus with all around you!

What about infant baptism/christening?

At Mt. Pleasant, we offer opportunities for parents to have their children baptized or dedicated. Depending on the church tradition you come from, you may have desire for one over the other. Our pastoral staff will discuss both options with you. Ultimately, this step of faith is more about the parents making a commitment to raise their child in a Christlike environment. This is done in the expectation that their children will one day make a personal profession of faith in Jesus.

What if I was baptized as a child but feel led to be baptized as an adult?

Baptism is a step of boldness and obedience. We encourage you to be obedient to the leading of the Holy Spirit in your life. If you feel that God is calling you to publicly profess your faith through the sacrament of baptism… we support you. The pastoral staff at Mt. Pleasant will walk through this process and help answer additional questions you may have.

How old do I have to be?

God works in each of our lives at different ages, stages, and paces. We have had people of all ages make a public profession of faith and celebrate baptism as a believer. For each candidate, our pastoral staff will walk you through all of your questions and concerns. For younger believers, parents are heavily involved in this process.
