23 Jan The Shepherd’s Staff – February 2025
Greetings Mt. Pleasant Church from your Elder team. As we embark on a new year, Pastor Chris has been leading us through a series around making resolutions entitled, I Resolve. Many people make resolutions for the new year about things they want to do to improve their life. What if we were to resolve to grow deeper in our level of discipleship in 2025?
You may ask, what does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus?
Actively following Jesus’ teachings, committing to live your life according to His Word, putting Him first in your life, and spreading His message to others, essentially becoming a dedicated follower who strives to emulate His actions and values; it signifies a personal relationship with Jesus where you continually learn from Him and strive to live like Him.
Key aspects of being a disciple:
- Obeying Jesus’ commands: Following the principles and instructions given by Jesus in the Bible.
- Personal commitment: Choosing to prioritize Jesus above all else in your life.
- Sharing the Gospel: Telling others about Jesus and his teachings.
- Living a Christ-like life: Seeking to embody the character traits and behaviors demonstrated by Jesus.
- Continuous learning: Actively studying the Bible and seeking to deepen your understanding of Jesus’ teachings.
To live and be more like Jesus, you must know Him and His Word. Here are some practical ways to grow in your level of discipleship:
- Worship with your church family regularly.
- Join or start a small group Bible study on Sundays or at other times throughout the week.
- Develop a daily Bible reading/study plan and a daily prayer plan.
- Attend family night and participate in one of the four studies currently going on.
- Utilize MTP provided subscription to Rightnow Media to access a library of video Bible studies.
Developing these habits will help you grow in your discipleship and will change your life and your relationships. Resolve to deepen your discipleship in 2025.
Matthew 28:18-20. 18 Jesus came and told His disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
